It is important to understand how much the movers are responsible for any lost or damaged item.
The valuation statement on the bill of lading governs this. The minimum coverage for moving companies required by law is $0.60 per pound per article up to $10.000 (its included in the rate given) and it called carrier liability insurance.
If an item is lost or damaged, you would receive $0.60 per pound per damaged item. For instance, if an item is damaged during the move, an item that you bought for $700.00 and it weighed 100 pounds, you would only get $60.00 as compensation.
Extra coverage is an option that you may consider purchasing.
We do not sell additional coverage and we don't recommend anyone to buy additional coverage from a moving company. (Moving company is not an insurance company and cannot process insurance claims).
If you have renter's or homeowner's insurance, you may already be covered or be able to purchase a coverage policy through your personal insurance agent.

If you choose to purchase full value replacement insurance, we request that you obtain coverage for your goods as early as possible. In any case, insurance must be purchased prior to your actual moving day. Don't wait for the last minute as some insurance companies, for their own reasons, refuse to insure you on moving day itself.
Particle Board pressed wood furniture is excluded from basic liability. Poor quality of the materials used to manufacture these items makes them prone to damage when moved, disassembled or reassembled. Both basic and third-party insurances exclude these items from their coverage.
Since moving companies do not know which items were packed inside such boxes, the condition of the items, and the way the items were packed - they are unable to assure their safe arrival, and therefore exclude them from both basic and full coverage. Third party insurances limit the coverage for such items (approximately $250/box, please speak with your broker). For this reason, if you have items that are especially delicate or expensive, we strongly recommend having the movers pack them for you.
We know, it's a lot to read. But it is very important information that we want to make sure every customer understands. Over the years we have run into all kinds of people who have asked us to do all kinds of things (even if it was a bad idea and we said so at the time). When we are on the clock we work for you and will make every effort to do what you ask. However, please be advised that certain things you may ask for, come with certain risks, and we cannot be responsible for the results of these requests... So as you read this, try to put yourself in our shoes - imagine what circumstances might have motivated us to add a particular policy. These policies are for your protection as well as ours.
The customer or his representative must be present during the move at all times. We need your guidance! It is the customer's responsibility to do a final 'walk-through' of the premises to ensure we have taken everything.
The total move cost is to be paid upon delivery in the form agreed - in cash or credit/debit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards (no AMEX) and don't accept any checks. The person who is paying for the move with a card has to be present with an actual card and ID. If you are not present please make a payment arrangement in advance. Our time runs continuously until all tools and equipment are back in the truck and payment is completed. Having your cash or credit/debit card ready will save you time and money.
For safety reasons and their protection, small children and pets must be out of the work area.
If your plans change, please do let us know as soon as possible, so that we can try to accommodate you. We require a 48 hours written notice for any changes - please email your notice to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If the notice is given less than 48 hours before the move, your $100 deposit is non-refundable. There will be an additional $100 cancellation fee if you cancel or reschedule on the day of the move. Prime Moving Center reserves the right not to service a move at our discretion.
Customer is responsible for arranging parking and requesting moving permits if required. We can only recommend getting permits for all moves as they guarantee parking the moving truck as close as possible to your doorway. Because you are familiar with the parking situation on your street, you must decide if you need one or if you can manage parking on your own. In most cases we require 30-40 feet to park the truck. Please get moving permits if you think movers may have trouble parking at your address. If there is nowhere to park at the time of mover's arrival, the crew will start your moving clock while they will be searching for parking. Driver reserves the right to park anywhere at his discretion to better perform services, even if it is illegal and/or he has to double-park. Customer agrees to pay any parking fees or tickets assessed to the carrier for any vehicle under hire by the customer at the time of the charge.
Please ensure that your walkways are safe especially in the winter and if there are any access problems: hills, long unpaved driveways, loose gravel, etc., please let us know. Prime Moving Center will not drive a truck over freshly graveled driveways, lawn sidewalk or other areas not designated for truck traffic. Doing so may cause ruts in the grass, cracking of the concrete, loss of vegetation, damage to underground sprinklers, drain fields or other damage. Prime Moving Center is not responsible for any damage or towing charges, which may result, whether foreseeable or not. Any time spent positioning the truck(s) or time lost due to the truck(s) getting stuck will be at customer's expense.
We reserve the right to limit our workday to 12 hours. In certain cases, due to DOT hours of service rules for drivers, we may need to cut a job short or send a replacement driver to avoid violating those regulations.
If Prime Moving Center is only providing loading or unloading services, we are not responsible for any damages, which may occur in transporting the furniture and is released of all liability after loading the truck prior to unloading. We are only responsible for items in our immediate care, custody, and control.
If you are loading or unloading into or out of self-storage, we are only responsible for damage caused while loading, transporting or unloading. It is the customer's responsibility to provide padding (blankets, thick towels, padded paper, etc.) to protect their goods. You can rent our blankets for $15 each. $25 per blanket is due on the day of your move, and $10 will be refunded to you when you return them. We ask you to be present at the storage site to note the condition of your items. Our responsibility ends when the unloading is complete.
All claims must be submitted in writing within 30 days of your move day to email@example.com.We reserve the right to investigate all claims. Applicable notes about these damages must be made in writing on the bill of lading on the day of your move before movers leave your premises. Our company standards do assume a full inspection of furniture by both our movers and customers, however, the final inspection is the responsibility of the customer. All of our customers sign a bill of lading upon completion of a move. It reads 'I have inspected my goods and premises, including but not limited to elevators, floors, and stairwells. There are no damages except as noted. The cab and the back of the truck are empty and the job is complete'. For any insurance company, this document is critical in noting charges the same day, to ensure the damage occurred that day and that coverage could be provided. Unless payment is made in full as due we are not required to answer or process a claim. Do not assume you may deduct the money from the final bill to compensate yourself in the event of damage. This is ILLEGAL.
Prime Moving Center will not do anything that we feel is unsafe. We reserve the right not to service you under dangerous, unsanitary, or abusive conditions the determination of which is at our sole discretion and we will not be liable to you or any other entity for direct or consequential damages.
We are often asked to perform tasks that border on the impossible. Prime Moving Center will not be responsible for damage caused by non-routine moving including but not limited to, standing pieces on end, sharp turns, overcrowded work areas, difficult stairways, snags and sharp edges in work areas and doorways, handing over balconies, railings, etc., tight squeezes, and damage caused by weather. Prime Moving Center is not responsible for any direct or indirect damage to items or surroundings, as a result of a specific customer request. You will be asked to sign a waiver if we agree to attempt a move that we deem unsafe or unreasonable.
Prime Moving Center reserves the right to reschedule the move at an agreed upon time, without liability if there is inclement weather, including, but not limited to heavy/freezing rain, snow emergency, hurricane warning, weather travel ban etc.
Please note: insurance regulations prohibit us from allowing you on the truck and if you choose to help with any part of the move, per our contract, we are excluded from liability for the entire move.
Although customary in the moving industry, it is always customer elective. If you feel you have been treated especially well, a tip of $5-$10 per mover per hour is common. You can give it to your foreman who will split it with the crew, or to each mover.
The safety of any activity or move is at the discretion of the Foreman/Crew Leader.
Any damages that occur from a specific Customer request are not covered. This refers to a situation where items that cannot be moved safely and without damage to the home or to the item. If the Customer requests for the item to be moved anyways, our movers will accommodate the Customer's request but our company damage liability is waived for such an item.
Our personnel will move Customer's pianos, appliances, and items over 300 lbs if the work can be done safely. Unfortunately, damage may result to floor surfaces. If Customer wishes to take this risk Our Company will not be responsible.
Our Company shall not be responsible for damage to accounts, bills, checks, evidence of debts, letters of credit, passports, tickets, documents, manuscripts, notes, mechanical, drawings, securities, currency, money, bullion, precious stones, jewelry, or other similar valuables, paintings, statuary, or other works of art, or property carried gratuitously or as an accommodation.
Our Company may use dollies to facilitate removal or placement of appliances and other large items. Damages that may result to floors, such as but not limited to, scratches, dents, etc. are not the responsibility of Our Company.
Our Company cannot be responsible for dents or scratches on major appliances (they are covered by a thin layer of metal that has an extreme affinity to dent and scratch).
Our Company shall not be responsible for the working condition of major appliances or anything electrical and mechanical (printers, machinery, tools, clocks, pianos, etc...).
Our Company shall not be responsible for damage to items requiring special instructions if the Customer fails to provide such instructions including, but not limited to, disassemble or assembly of said items and any special preparation required.
Our Company assumes no liability or responsibility for any items and cargo loaded or unloaded into the Customer's own vehicle, pod, rented moving truck, etc. for which Our Company does not transport.
Our Company is not responsible for any damage, which occurs to prior damage, repairs, defects or any other weaknesses in the furniture itself.
Our Company will not connect washer/dryers or ice makers. Customer or Customer's representative must check or accept any plumbing connections. Any assistance we give is as a courtesy only. Water and drain connections are the responsibility of the user.
Any boxes, TV's, crates, bins, or similar packages, packed by the Customer are not covered by our basic insurance. We cannot be sure if these items were properly packaged and protected and we cannot assume damage liability for these items.
All TV's must be checked for functionality by turning them on in presence of a crew leader and the Customer, before packing TV and after unpacking TV.
Special care, fragile, and high-value items without proper packaging and preparation are not covered. At the Customer's request, we will move these items without crating but cannot assume liability for damages if packing quality has not been met.
Particle Board, pressed wood furniture, and IKEA furniture is excluded from basic liability. Poor quality of the materials used to manufacture these items makes them prone to damage when moved, disassembled or reassembled.
Prime Moving Center cannot be responsible for marks, scratches, dents on the walls, stair railing, staircases resulting from carrying the items up and down the staircases.
